Berkeley County School District, the fourth largest school system in the state, currently serves over 29,000 students and operates 40 schools (twenty-two elementary/intermediate schools, nine middle schools, eight high schools, and one alternative school). The district continues to invest in the best possible learning opportunities for students and the best possible working environment for employees. Berkeley County, one of the largest in the state, is a unique setting covering over 1,229 square miles. It is the fastest growing county in the state, in terms of population, and is located just north of Charleston, South Carolina. Berkeley County, part of South Carolina’s Lowcountry, is home to the Francis Marion National Forest and surrounds Lake Moultrie.
